What's the first thing that comes to mind when you picture the Spanish island of Ibiza? Parties? Picturesque bays and beautiful sundowns? The film stars who have houses there? Well, it certainly has all this BUT... Ibiza is a popular place to learn Spanish too.
Our newest partner school, recently added to our website, offers a whole range of Spanish courses (with or without accommodation) and additional activities. From 20-hour per week courses staying in a family, or holiday Spanish courses with the freedom of having your own room and facilities in a shared apartment. Of course you CAN party on Ibiza, but doing a Spanish course will certainly add to your cultural experience and enable you to delve deeper into what this amazing island has to offer.
So what does it have to offer? Here are some great ideas for making the most of your language holiday on Ibiza:
1. Plan Ahead for Clubs and Parties
- Tickets: As mentioned, Ibiza is famous for its nightlife, with superclubs like Pacha, Amnesia, and Ushuaïa hosting world-class DJs. The queues for these places can be huge and with no guarantee of getting in after the long wait. Book you tickets online in advance to avoid higher prices at the door.
- Pre-parties: Many beach bars and smaller venues host pre-parties in the evening before the main events. Check out Café Mambo or Café del Mar for sunset vibes before heading to the clubs.
2. Explore the Beaches
- Cala Comte: Famous for crystal-clear waters and stunning sunsets. Arrive early to get a good spot!
- Cala d’Hort: Offers incredible views of the mystical Es Vedrà rock and is perfect for a peaceful beach day.
- Cala Benirràs: Known for its Sunday evening drumming sessions, a unique way to experience Ibiza's bohemian spirit.
3. Rent a Car or Scooter
- Public transport is available, but to really explore Ibiza’s hidden coves, beaches, and rural spots, renting a car or scooter is ideal. Teaming up with a few people and driving also lets you easily access quieter areas outside the touristy centres.
4. Visit Ibiza Old Town (Dalt Vila)
- This UNESCO World Heritage site offers stunning views, ancient architecture, cobblestone streets, and charming restaurants. Perfect for a day of exploring and soaking in Ibiza’s history.
5. Try Local Cuisine
- Sofrit Pagès: A traditional Ibizan meat stew that’s worth trying.
- Bullit de Peix: A local fish dish often served with aioli.
- Visit local restaurants in Santa Gertrudis or Ibiza Town to try authentic Balearic cuisine.
6. Catch the Sunset
- Ibiza has some of the best sunset spots in the Mediterranean. Es Vedrà, Sunset Strip in San Antonio, and Cala Comte are popular places to watch the sun go down with a cocktail in hand.
7. Balance Learning Spanish with Wellness
- There’s a thriving wellness scene on Ibiza with yoga retreats, meditation classes, and wellness spas.
8. Avoid Peak Party Season if You Prefer Quiet
- July and August are the peak season months and can be very busy. If you prefer a quieter experience, visit in May, June, or September. You’ll still enjoy good weather, but with fewer crowds.
9. Take a Boat Trip to Formentera
- A short ferry ride from Ibiza, Formentera offers some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, like Playa de Ses Illetes. Rent bikes or scooters to explore this peaceful paradise.
10. Pick up a bit of Catalan too
- Although Spanish is the language most widely spoken on Ibiza, you'll also see road signs and other information in Catalan. Don't worry, if you're doing a Spanish class at a language school here, the focus will be entirely on Spanish. But what harm can it do to casually pick up a few words of another language while you're here?
Enjoy your trip to Ibiza! Whether you’re looking for a high quality language school or for world-class parties or hidden retreats and sundowners, the island offers something for everyone!
Estudia-España and its partner schools all over Spain offers affordable and quality Spanish language courses for everyone.
