Meet Pedro: co-founder of Estudia-España
At Estudia-España, we're passionate about helping people connect with the Spanish language and culture. Who better to share that passion than Pedro, one of our co-founders? With a lifelong love for Spain and languages, Pedro is dedicated to making language learning an unforgettable experience. Here's a little insight into his journey.
What inspired you to learn Spanish?
My love for Spain started during my first trip to Granada. I attended a three-week intensive course in Granada, at Proyecto Español, and it completely changed how I saw language learning. It wasn’t just about the grammar and vocabulary, it was the people I met, the culture I experienced, and even the food I tasted. That time really solidified my connection to Spain and sparked my passion for helping others learn the language.
What's your favourite city in Spain and why?
That’s a tough one! But if I had to pick, it’s Málaga. It has this perfect mix of beaches, vibrant city life, and a rich cultural history. Plus, the food is out of this world. I love exploring the streets, visiting the Alcazaba, and then ending the day with some delicious food.
Speaking of food, do you have a favourite tapa?
Absolutely: boquerones en vinagre! They’re simple but so full of flavour, and they remind me of evenings spent with friends in Spanish tapas bars.
What advice would you give to someone starting to learn Spanish?
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes! Just get out there and start talking. Spaniards are incredibly friendly and open, and they’ll really appreciate the effort you’re making. It’s all about building confidence and enjoying the process. You’ll pick up so much more than just the language, like little cultural quirks and insights.
How has learning Spanish changed your life?
Learning Spanish has made travelling in Spain and South America so much more enjoyable and easy. You gain a deeper understanding of the culture, the humour, and the little quirks that make each place unique. Plus, it’s given me opportunities to connect with so many incredible people from around the world.
What's the most memorable experience you've had while travelling in Spain?
The first time I visited the Alhambra in Granada. I was completely blown away. Exploring its intricate architecture and imagining the history behind it was just magical. I’ve been back six times since, and it never gets old.
What made you want to co-found Estudia-España?
It started as a reincarnation of an old website, but the real motivation was wanting to offer more people the same amazing experiences my brother and I have had learning Spanish. We wanted to create something that makes it easy for others to explore the language, the culture, and everything Spain has to offer.
Do you have any tips for making the most of a language learning trip?
Immerse yourself as much as you can. Take every opportunity to speak Spanish, whether it’s with locals, fellow students, or even just ordering coffee at a café. Don’t worry about being perfect – it’s all part of the journey. Also, make time to explore the culture: visit historical sites, try local food, and soak in the atmosphere of where you are.
