Why Madrid is a great place to learn Spanish
In Madrid you hear clear, standard Spanish everywhere, and English is less common than in coastal resorts, so you practise all day. The city is safe, easy to get around by metro, and has something for everyone: art, parks, shopping, football and a famous nightlife.
- Art and culture Visit the Prado, the Reina Sofía and the Thyssen museums, all within walking distance of each other along the Paseo del Arte.
- Parks and squares Row a boat in the Retiro park, and meet friends in the Plaza Mayor or Puerta del Sol.
- Tapas and nightlife Go for tapas in La Latina, and explore the bars and clubs of Malasaña and Chueca.

Frequently asked questions about learning Spanish in Madrid
Which Spanish courses can I take in Madrid?

When is the best time to learn Spanish in Madrid?
Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to November) are the best times: warm, sunny days and cooler evenings. July and August are very hot; winters are cold but often bright and sunny.
Is Madrid a good place to learn Spanish as a beginner?
Yes. Madrid is the capital of Spanish-speaking Spain, and people speak a clear, standard Spanish. Fewer people switch to English than in coastal resorts, so you practise all day.

Central neighbourhoods such as Malasaña, Lavapiés and Chamberí are lively and well connected, and the metro makes the rest of the city easy to reach. Your school’s accommodation is chosen to be within easy reach of your classes.
